The Scottish Recorder Orchestra

The orchestra (founded in 2002) currently has about 50 members in sections playing sopranino, descant, treble, tenor, bass, great bass and contrabass recorders.  New members are welcome.  A good standard of playing and sight-reading is necessary, but auditions are not held.  If you are in doubt, come and see how you fit in.  Please also complete an application form and see the Chair's letter for 2007-2008.  If you have questions, contact . Our most recent concert was on May 4th 2008 in Dortmund, Germany, jointly with the  Dortmund Recorder Consort.

Orchestra collage

Rehearsals are usually on the second Sunday of most months, 2.00 to 5.00 p.m. in St Columba's Church hall, Park Terrace, Stirling FK8 2NA.  See the map

In the autumn, one of the afternoon rehearsals is replaced by a residential weekend, Friday to Sunday, now regularly with a guest tutor as well as Eileen. See the reports of the residential weekends in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007.

2008-2009 season

2008 Sep 14th, **October 3rd-5th**, Nov 9th, Dec 14th

**Return visit** by the Dortmund Recorder Consort 3rd to 5th October 2008 at Carberry Tower, with a concert in Edinburgh on Sunday 5th October at 2.30 p.m.

2009 Jan 11th, Feb 8th, Mar 8th, May 10th, June 14th

Performances

The Orchestra has given short performances as part of the Scottish Recorder Festival in 2004 (Edinburgh), 2005 (Glasgow), 2006 (Edinburgh) and 2007 (Edinburgh).

Public performances, with proceeds to charity, have been given in St Columba's Church, Stirling in June 2005 and June 2006 and in Queen's Cross Church, Aberdeen in June 2007.

Concert dates 2008

Sunday May 4th 2.00 p.m. Dortmund, Germany, jointly with the  Dortmund Recorder Consort. Mallinckrodt-Gymnasium, Südrandweg 4, 44139 Dortmund.

Saturday, May 31st 4.45 p.m., Glasgow, a short performance during the Scottish Recorder Festival in Ibrox Parish Church, admission free.

Sunday June 8th 6.00 p.m.,  Stirling, St Columba's Church with a charity collection.

Saturday June 14th, St John's Cathedral, Oban, 7.30 p.m (map), collection in aid of Oban Hospice.

Sunday 5 October, 2.30 p.m. Edinburgh.
